- Uh oh, there's a big difference: For the PC drives to work as DD drives
- permanently in the Amiga, you don't need *any* "hack" on the drives
- themselves, it's just a little exchange of two pins of the connector
- by a jumper wire. To modify a drive to work at half speed means severe
- hacking into the inner electronics of the drive. Point is, yes, this
- can be done, but you can't do it *reliably* (so that floppies remain
- interchangeable among different computers) without a total redesign
- of the floppie's own controller chips on its own PCB. One manufacturer
- estimated an effort of 1 million US$ and *at least* 8 months work.
